Each of my pieces begins with a drawing; this ultimately provides a source of information and inspiration.  The intimate act of drawing produces for me the link between the emotional energy I first encountered with the subject and the emerging visual image which develops after marks are made on paper.

I then use pastels to expand upon these images.  This medium allows me to simultaneously unite the gesture of drawing with the act of painting and to eventually give form, color, and space to that imagery.
